The Cleugh Farm Bothy is situated midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh, making it the perfect base for exploring Scotland.

A South Lanarkshire holiday is the perfect place to get out and about.

At New Lanark, only 8 miles away from the cottage, you can step back in time to the 18th century. Visit the Cotton Mill Village and experience the utopian ideas of Robert Owen which were years ahead of their time. He abolished child labour, set up schools for his workers children and provided them with decent houses. The village is still occupied today and guided tours around the village are available.

The Falls of Clyde Nature Reserve has a pair of nesting peregrine falcons. You can get close to these wonderful birds and the reserve has guides on site to answer all your questions. The best times to see the breeding peregrines is between April and June. The Falls of Clyde are a spectacular sight to see – great for photographers and artists or just to take in the views.

Edinburgh

Scotland’s captital city, Edinburgh, is only 26 miles away. Whether you prefer museums, castles or shopping you won’t be disappointed. The Royal Yacht Brittania which resides at the Port of Leith or the Royal Botanic Gardens are a must.

Glasgow

The vibrant city of Glasgow has a huge wealth of things to do and see. From Cleugh Farm it’s very easy to get to and only 28 miles away. Visit the Science Centre or check out whats on at the SECC. There are numerous museums in Glasgow and the shopping is second to none.

Closer to home

Although Cleugh Farm is right in the middle between Edinburgh and Glasgow there are also plenty of things to do closer to us. New Lanark Heritage Centre (8 miles) is an award-winning memorial to the industrial revolution with wonderful walks and a great audio/visual theatre show.

The village of Wilsontown, right next to the farm, with it’s rich mining history has plenty of hidden heritage to discover. The network of forestry paths makes this a pleasure to explore on foot.

New Lanark – visit this extraordinary industrial world heritage site.

Livingston is 12 miles from us and boasts a wealth of attractions. The Almond Valley Heritage Centre museum is great for all ages and Scotland’s largest Designer Outlet, McArthur Glen, is great for picking up some bargains.

Falkirk is about 20 miles from us and has the UK’s largest canal restoration project with the spectacular centrepiece, the Falkirk Wheel, being the only one of its kind in the world.
